Catching up on weddings from 2017, this is the Holdenby House Wedding of Mercedes & Henry. I remember visiting Holdenby House as child when at primary school. It was the place you visited to learn about ye olde tymes when life was simpler! This was probably back in about 1986, which to many now is definitely the olden days! Anyway, I’m rambling – back to the point of the blog! Mercedes & Henry got in touch with me about their wedding at Holdenby House and jumped at the opportunity to shoot return for the first time in over 30 years.
Just putting this out there, but I reckon Holdenby House surely has got the best ever room for bridal prep? Its bright airy with plenty of space – and that wallpaper! The weather on the day was a little bit challenging. 2017 had a habit of being a very wet year of weddings for me… it seemed like I had a run of about 10-15 weddings in the summer where it rained at least once during the day. And don’t get me wrong, a bit of rain can help to bring some interesting photos that just can’t be planned so its great to have the challenge. But what can be extremely annoying with the rain is when it decides to show itself when guests are due to be outside for drinks reception, group photos, confetti, garden games – you know the kind of things!
With the rain came extremely limited light, particular for the ceremony which took place in a beautiful wood panelled room. The wood panelling sucked up the minimal amount of natural light coming in – but again, this made things a little challenging but gave some unexpected results during the ceremony. The drinks reception took part inside due to the rain but eventually we were able to get outside for some portraits around the stunning grounds of Holdenby House. Everyone was able to let their hair down with some crazy dancing later in the evening.
